Polynucleotides V Fillers (+BTX)
Which do I choose?
Turning 54 (OMG!) is taking a bit of getting used to. And I am not sure I should actually write what I am abot to. Despite owning this fabulous facial aesthetics clinic, I am going to admit that I’ve been somewhat lax in keeping up with my own treatments. For years, I genuinely thought I had left it too late to make any meaningful tweakments. I am also from that generation where even wearing lip-stick had to be considered, .
Sure, I’ve been having and loving Profhilo® injections for a while, and after being introduced to those marvellous anti-wrinkle injections administered by our brilliant Dr Vy Nguyen, I quickly realised just how wrong I was in thinking it was too late.
But here’s where it gets tricky. Despite my experience with Profhilo® and anti-wrinkle treatments, I had never ventured into the world of fillers. And just when I was getting comfortable with the idea of finally trying them, our team introduces me to polynucleotides. Now, I’m faced with one too many options, and as as I think our wonderful clients will be thinking similarly, I thought it would be wise to ask our incredible medical team to clarify the differences. And the below is what I’ve found out.
The Trusted Power of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers have been around for quite some time, offering immediate and noticeable results for those looking to restore lost volume and smooth out wrinkles. These injectables, usually made with hyaluronic acid (a substance naturally found in our skin), are great for adding volume where it’s needed most—think cheeks, lips, and those stubborn lines around the mouth. Fillers can give a refreshed and more youthful look almost instantly, with results that last from six months to two years.
Why Choose Fillers?
Immediate Results: I’m advised that for someone like me who’s been a bit slow on the uptake, fillers (when done correctly) offer the kind of quick fix that just works. The changes are visible right away, which is perfect if you’re in need of a little confidence boost.
Customisable: Fillers can be tailored to specific needs, whether to subtly enhance lips or add more definition to other areas like our cheeks or jawline. When administered by an expert the best use is tailoring to your unique profile so as not to change the way you look - but to enhance particular areas.
Temporary Yet Reversible: If you’re a bit cautious, I guess I have to admit, like I am, you’ll appreciate that fillers aren’t permanent. You can adjust your look as you go, ensuring it always suits your style and preferences.
That said, fillers do require regular maintenance. If you want to keep that youthful plumpness, you’ll need to schedule follow-up appointments every so often. And, of course, as with any treatment, there can be temporary side effects like swelling or bruising.
Polynucleotides: The New Frontier in Skin Rejuvenation
Now, let’s talk about polynucleotides—the latest innovation that’s making waves in the aesthetics world. Unlike fillers, which provide volume by adding a little something extra under the skin, polynucleotides work from the inside out. These injectables are made from salmon DNA (yes, really) and are designed to stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes, improving elasticity, hydration, and overall skin quality over time.
How Do Polynucleotides Work? Polynucleotides aren’t about quick fixes; they’re more of a long-term investment in your skin’s health. By encouraging your body to produce more collagen and repair itself, they gradually improve the texture and tone of your skin. So, while you might not see an immediate transformation, the benefits keep building over time.
The Benefits of Polynucleotides:
Holistic Rejuvenation: Polynucleotides don’t just cover up the signs of aging—they help your skin combat them from within. Over time, you’ll notice a natural, healthy glow that feels more like you.
Regenerative Power: These treatments focus on improving your skin’s structure and resilience, which means fewer wrinkles and more bounce in your skin.
Biocompatibility: Because they’re derived from natural sources, polynucleotides are gentle on the body, making them a safe choice for ongoing use.
Fillers vs. Polynucleotides: Which is Right for Me?
So here I am, trying to figure out whether I should go for fillers or jump on the polynucleotide bandwagon. The truth is, my research has confirmed that I need some help to understand what I really want to achieve. Vy explains that if you want to see immediate changes and give your features a little more oomph, fillers might be the best bet. But if you’re thinking long-term and want to invest in the overall health and quality of your skin, polynucleotides could be the way to go.
And then she explained, why choose at all? With her experience and that of the rest of our medical team we can benefit with a treatment plan combining both. I trust her completely - so have decided it’s time to let her expertise guide me.
The Art of Precision in Aesthetics
But, as it is Vy advising, I can’t sign off without giving a nod to her use of our trusty anti-wrinkle injections (you know the ones that rhyme with “fox”). Even as she takes me through these new options, I’ve learned that there’s always room for a little precision sprinkling to keep those expression lines in check.
What do I do next?
I have an appointment scheduled for this Saturday. And promise to share x
