Dr Saira Vasdev shares her pick of treatments and products for the new season

Dr Saira Vasdev

As we emerge from the long winter months and ease ourselves into Spring we may find our skin a little dry and lacklustre, having battled the elements of late.

Here are my top recommendations for getting your skin back to optimal health and maximal radiance.

Profhilo

The heavyweight among skin boosters.  Profhilo is an injectable moisturiser which delivers a hit of hyaluronic acid in a concentration that is unrivalled by other products in the aesthetic market.  HA is what gives the skin its plumpness and bounce as it works by attracting and holding moisture in the tissues near the skin’s surface resulting in a dewy appearance and smoothing out of fine lines and wrinkles.  It also stimulates collagen and elastin production resulting in firmer, tightened skin.  Popular areas to treat include face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Dr. Saira recommends 2 treatments 2-4 weeks apart.  Results last 6 months.

Retinoids

I can spot a well seasoned retinoid user from across the room.  They are sure to have beautiful healthy looking skin, almost airbrushed in its appearance and free from the signs of premature ageing.  It’s not always just down to genetics.  If there has ever been a skincare ingredient that has been scientifically proven time and time again to outperform the rest, it’s Vitamin A.  A multi-tasking hero, retinoids resurface the skin and provide collagen support.  They reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and enhance firmness.  Retinoids are a long term investment in skin health.  Yes you may experience some sensitivity and peeling in the short term but with the right approach it usually settles with consistent use and over time your skin will become stronger, healthier and more resilient.  Always be sure to wear moisturiser and SPF daily and you will see how low maintenance your skin actually becomes.  It’s really that simple.

Dr. Saira recommends Medik8 Crystal Retinal for low irritation, high impact results.

Barrier repair

If your skin feels dry and tight, or you are experiencing sensitivity to certain skincare ingredients there’s a high chance that you are suffering from skin barrier impairment. A moisturiser enriched with ceramides will replenish the lipids in the cell membrane, supporting a functional barrier that helps prevent moisture loss - keeping the skin hydrated, plump and supple.  Squalane and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) are other key ingredients for soothing inflammation, strengthening the skin’s barrier and boosting hydration.

Dr. Saira recommends Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops Facial Serum and Obagi Hydrate Luxe Ultra Rich Moisturising Cream.

Skin booster facial

Nothing beats an in-clinic skin boosting facial that's customised to your needs and delivered by a pro.  At Skin & Sanctuary we have a team of skin health experts and a range of medical grade facials to meet your individual skin needs.  Think antioxidant infusions, personalised skin cocktails, heavyweight hydration, skin brighteners, collagen boosters and a line up of super skin tech (e.g. LED therapy, LYMA laser) to elevate your skin this spring.

Dr. Saira’s favourites include the Super Hydrafacial and our coveted AquaGold Glass Skin Facial, now available with LYMA Laser - our new cold laser therapy device that harnesses the power of Near Infra-Red light for instantly plumped and radically more youthful skin.
