You Make It: A Graduation, A Movement, A Privilege

Last Monday, I had the absolute privilege of attending the You Make It 2025 graduation ceremony at the fabulous Nike building in King’s Cross. It was, as always, a deeply moving experience — one that stirred so many emotions, and for so many reasons.

I was completely in awe of the beautiful, intelligent young women I met — their strength, their charisma, their kindness. It was impossible not to feel inspired.

For those unfamiliar, You Make It is an East London-based charity that empowers young Black and Brown women to transform their lives through a holistic programme of mentorship, workshops, and personal development. Founded by my amazing friend Asma Shah in 2011, the organisation started around her kitchen table and has since grown into a powerful force for change, impacting over 600 women to date.

The graduation ceremony was a clear reminder of that impact. One by one, the graduates took to the stage to share their stories — stories of resilience, growth, and newfound confidence. Each one was a testament to the strength and potential that lives within every woman when given the right support and opportunities.

At Skin & Sanctuary, we believe deeply in the power of community and the importance of giving back. That’s why we contribute £1 from every treatment to support You Make It’s mission. This year, we’ve also had the privilege of donating services to their Crowdfunder, which is raising funds to provide even more resources for these incredible women.

I often find it difficult to understand how we are still in a place where this kind of support is needed. But each year, when I attend the You Make It graduation, I’m reminded — clearly and powerfully — just how much can be achieved, and just how important this work is. Not just for the women involved, but for all of us.

If you feel moved to support this incredible organisation, I encourage you to visit their Crowdfunder. Every donation, no matter the size, helps create a more equitable, empowering future for women in our community.

With love,

Sonia
