Our favourite winter skin treatments, tweakments and skincare

Gosh, it’s cold out there. I appreciate that I’ve just stated the obvious. But now that it truly is so cold and I can feel the impact on my already sensitive, dry, and ‘mature’ skin, I thought I’d ask the team for their expert recommendations.

What I hadn’t realised is that there would be so many. The thing is that the cold weather in January impacts our skin very differently to the heat in July.

I am wisely informed that our skin’s main job, whatever the season, is to be our shield, protect what’s on the inside - so keep the inside world in and the outside world out. The outermost layer, the lipid barrier, composed of fatty compounds is our skin's defender against germs, toxins, and dehydration.

However, winter temperatures, low humidity, hot showers, and central heating team up to steal moisture from this lipid barrier. The result, on the skin’s surface, is skin that looks dull and can feel tight, dry and itchy. And, at a microscopic level, a lack of moisture and barrier components leaves it susceptible to invading chemicals causing redness, irritation, and sensitivity.

So, it makes sense to tweak our skincare in January. What's intriguing is that our winter skin could benefit from some treatment 'tweakments' too.

To explore the full list of recommendations and, more importantly, find what suits your skin best, I encourage you to come in and chat with one of our experts. Everyone’s skin is different so we take our time to assess and understand what will work best for you. If you are reading this as a patient who has had treatment at the clinic, this consultation is also complimentary so all you need to do is select a slot here.

In the meantime, here are some gems the team believes are beneficial for almost everyone.

Aesthetic Treatments for Winter Skin:

  • Polynucleotides: A cutting-edge innovation in aesthetic treatments, Polynucleotides encourage collagen and elastin formation, promoting inner healing and replenishment. Administered by our medical team, it's a game-changer for healing and rejuvenating tired and damaged skin.

  • Super HydraFacial: The classic Hydrafacial® does wonders to clear away old skin cells. Add one of Hydrafacial's personalised serums – Circadia for hydration and redness reduction or Jo-Lo for a JLO-inspired glow – and you're ready to radiate like a celeb.

  • Chemical Peels: Ideal for addressing dryness and dullness by promoting skin renewal and improving texture. January and February are perfect for these treatments, given lower UV radiation.

  • Profhilo: A super skin booster providing much-needed hydration during winter. Profhilo® stimulates collagen and elastin production, enhancing skin tone and texture.

Skincare Ingredient Essentials:

  • Hyaluronic Acid Serum (Team's Top Pick: Hydr8 B5 Intense by Medik8): A hydrating powerhouse that keeps the skin plump and supple.

  • Vitamin C (Team's Top Pick: Obagi Profession-C Serum): Fights free radicals, reduces hyperpigmentation, and adds a radiant glow.

  • Ceramides (Team's Top Pick: Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream): Naturally occurring lipids in the skin, crucial for intense hydration and protecting the skin's barrier.

  • Gentle Exfoliating Cleansers (Team's Favourite: Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse): Promotes a smoother and even skin tone by removing dead skin cells without stripping.

  • SPF 50: Yes, even in this cold. Sunscreen is a year-round essential to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. The team all have different favourites. We love, so stock Heliocare® and Obagi ranges. But please pop in and find the one that your skin loves.

I do hope this has been helpful and hope you find the treatment and products that will protect your skin - and so you - during this cold snap. And if you have any questions about our treatments and services, or your skin generally please don’t hesitate to ask.

2024 is the year that we give even more to our patients. Our small way of saying thank you ❤️
